David Hlavac
Storyteller

As a child, David’s mother always knew he would be a great communicator.

“He never shut up,” says David’s weary mom. “Actually, he was quite annoying, and that’s being charitable because he’s my son.”

David’s career in the art of persuasion began in the fall of 1977, when he dug up all the frostbitten vegetables from the family garden and sold them door-to-door for a nickel apiece. When David’s horrified mother dragged him back to each neighborhood house to return the money, she was shocked to learn that David’s customers didn’t want a refund – the young boy’s salesmanship was just too good to deny.

Many in the Haberman tribe have taken circuitous routes to the storytelling profession, and David is no exception. After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in history, David interned for a U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senator before landing his first grown-up job at Washington, D.C.-based communications firm GMMB. David also spent six years at Carmichael Lynch Spong in Minneapolis, where he won a Public Relations Society of America Silver Anvil on behalf of General Mills.

Since joining Haberman in October 2006, David has applied his gift of gab to some of the agency's most prominent business-to-business accounts. Among his many passions, David loves Brutalist architecture and is a staunch supporter of historic preservation. When he’s not playing make-believe with his son and daughter, David does pro bono work to help save the Fort Snelling Upper Post.
