When it comes to storytelling, Molly Gaines’ perspective is that it starts with great questions. So it’s no surprise that Molly’s path at Haberman began with a great question.
“What are you passionate about?” asked Fred. Molly replied, “Food. Good, healthy food. And how I can help people make more conscious decisions about their food purchases.”
With this in mind, Fred and Molly set out to represent two organizations with mutual philosophies – Organic Valley and The Wedge Co-op – as clients.
In the ensuing years, these relationships helped Haberman greatly expand its role as an advocate for some of the best-known natural and organic food-related institutions, including Annie’s Homegrown, Annie’s Naturals, the National Cooperative Grocers Association, Twin Cities Co-op Grocers, Sustainable Table, the Organic Trade Association and Earthjustice. Molly has played an essential role in creating and implementing communications strategies for all of these pioneers.
Molly’s devotion to promoting a lifestyle of health and sustainability extends beyond Haberman’s offices. She runs marathons, camps, hikes, bikes, snowboards and climbs mountains and trails. She once sat still in a tree in the woods of Ely, Minn. for nine hours before leaping out with a curdling yell and spearing a wild boar, which she gutted on site and carried back to her cabin to cook for her husband and son.
Prior to beginning her Haberman odyssey in 2001, Molly worked in public relations at Gateway, KB Gear Interactive and the Girl Scouts of America.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in communications from the University of Northern Iowa.
